Jon Payne studied Music at the University of Surrey, specialising in composition and choral conducting. He was appointed Director of the renowned Wenhaston Boys' Choir in Suffolk, and also worked for the Aldeburgh Festival. From 1999 to 2001, he was Organ Scholar at Norwich Cathedral, during which time he took part in a number of broadcasts and recordings, whilst also developing his career as a freelance choral conductor. He then joined Norfolk Music Education Service as choral animateur, where he directed the County Youth Choir, and subsequently took on a similar role in the Borough of Solihull on behalf of the British Federation of Young Choirs. He was Assistant Organist at St Alphege Church, Solihull prior to his appointment as Director of Music at St Thomas' Church, Stourbridge in November 2009. He works for the Royal School of Church Music as the Regional Music Adviser for the Central and East of England region. He is also Director of the Stratford Armonico Consort Academy Choir, and an Associate Lecturer at Christ Church University, Canterbury.  

Jon has developed a national reputation for the quality of his work with singers, working for Making Music, Youth Music, Singworks, youngchoirs, TWU, The Learning Revolution, and the Royal School of Church Music, to name but a few. He directs the Pearsall Consort, a Midlands-based male-voice ensemble, and has composed for the RSCM's Voice for Life series. As a versatile recitalist and conductor, he has worked extensively both in this country and abroad.
